Spurs akan bantu Gazza
Tottenham have confirmed their scheme to provide support for former players will be actively working to help Paul Gascoigne and his family. The former Spurs midfielder was sectioned under the Mental Health Act after he was arrested and detained on Wednesday following claims he acted as a 'potential menace' at a hotel in Gateshead.
Jonathan Adelman, chairman of the Tottenham Tribute Trust, said Spurs will do everything they can to help support 40-year-old.
'Paul holds a special place in the history of Tottenham Hotspur and it is our clear priority to look to support him and his family at this difficult time,' Adelman told the club's official website, www.tottenhamhotspur.com.
'He was a great player, not only for Spurs but also his country, and our organisation was set up by the club for the express purpose of providing help at such times.
'It is everyone's wish to see Paul well and healthy again. It will be important to determine the best form that this should take. 'Newcastle United Football Club are already in contact with Paul's family and we are liaising with them to determine what support is needed at this time. 'I know I speak for all our supporters and everyone connected with the club in wishing Paul a speedy recovery.

PREVIEW MATCH TONIGHT
Lyon v Man Utd
Ronaldo has recovered from the stomach upset that saw him miss the weekend's win over Arsenal while Giggs, Carlos Tevez and Owen Hargreaves, all rested against the Gunners, will return for the trip to play the French champions. Lyon boss Alain Perrin recalls Karim Benzema after resting him on Saturday, and must choose between Kim Kallstrom and Mathieu Bodmer in midfield. Captain and Brazil defender Cris, who has not played for six months due to torn right knee ligaments, has been included in the squad but is not expected to start.
Arsenal v Milan
Jens Lehmann will play in goal for Arsenal as Manuel Almunia has a thumb problem. Full-backs Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy also come back but Tomas Rosicky is out. Emmanuel Adebayor returns after he was benched for Saturday's drubbing at Manchester United. Third-choice Milan keeper Valerio Fiori is in line for his third start in eight years after Dida injured his back sitting on the bench and Zeljko Kalac dislocated a finger. Clarence Seedorf and Alexandre Pato have been declared fit and Kaka came through the weekend's game unscathed. But a fourth Brazilian, Ronaldo, is sidelined with a serious knee injury.
Celtic v Barcelona
Samuel Eto'o has made the trip to Glasgow after having shaken off a thigh problem leaving Barca boss Frank Rijkaard with the rare luxury of having Eto'o, Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho and Thierry Henry all fit and available. Sylvinho returns to the squad but there is no place for teenage striker Bojan Krkic, Gianluca Zambrotta or Edmilson, while Oleguer Presas, Santi Ezquerro and goalkeeper Albert Jorquera are all still injured. Gordon Strachan has Scott Brown suspended and new signing Andreas Hinkel cup-tied. He must choose between Paul Hartley, Gary Caldwell and teenager Scott Caddis to fill in at right-back.
Fenerbahce v Sevilla
For Sevilla, injured pair Javi Navarro and Ernesto Chevanton have not travelled to Istanbul while Alexander Kerzhakov and Khalid Boulahrouz were left out of the squad. Fenerbahce's biggest fitness concern is over their pitch, which has suffered from the freak blizzards that have bombarded south-east Europe.

We are not good enough, says Carragher
Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher claims the club's problems run deeper than their shock FA Cup exit to Barnsley at the weekend suggested. Despite taking the lead against the Championship side Rafael Benitez's team conceded an injury-time winner to increase the pressure on the under-fire manager and under-performing players.
The Anfield club are 19 points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal and are facing a battle to secure fourth place which is the minimum expected at the start of every season.
'I wouldn't call this just a bad spell,' Carragher said. 'It's been a lot longer than that. We realise we are not playing well enough. It's not a matter of putting your finger on one reason. 'It's simply because we have not been good enough. We've still got the Champions League to play for and we have to fight for that fourth place, so every league game is going to be important. We have to make sure we are in the Champions League next season.'
Things do not get any easier for Liverpool as tomorrow they face Inter Milan, who lead Serie A by 11 points, in the first leg of their Champions League second round match at Anfield.
'At every club there are ups and downs, but we realise we are going to get a lot of criticism in the next few days and rightly so,' added Carragher. 'We've got a massive game coming up against Inter, so we're going to have to get over this because the Champions League is massive for us now. 'It's the only thing we have left that we can win.'

United appeal Manucho permit
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is to make another attempt to secure a work permit for striker Manucho.
The Red Devils have loaned the Angola international - who scored four goals at the Africa Cup of Nations - to Greek outfit Panathinaikos until the end of the season.
Ferguson was forced to send Manucho out on loan after the Home Office rejected United's initial application for a work permit because he has not featured in 75 per cent of Angola's internationals in the past two years.
However, Ferguson has now confirmed he will make a second application, much to the delight of Manucho. "It is a pleasure hearing all this from someone as experienced as Alex Ferguson," Manucho told the Manchester Evening News. "If things turn out favourably, I will do my best to score as many (goals) as I can."

Update : Hamann pens one-year extension at City
Manchester City midfielder Dietmar Hamann has signed a new one-year deal with the Eastlands club. The former Liverpool and Germany star joined City last summer but struggled with injuries during his first season. However, the 34-year-old has been in impressive form under Sven-Goran Eriksson and was the man of the match in the derby win over Manchester United on Sunday.
