2013/14 Barclays Premier League Fixtures

Jose Mourinho and David Moyes will go head-to-head in a stiff test for the new managers of Chelsea and Manchester United in just the second game of the season as the 2013/14 fixture list was announced.

The new season begins on August 17 and is one of the most keenly-anticipated for many years, with huge change amongst the top teams. Manchester United's opening game will be away at Swansea and the first since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement.

Mourinho has made an emotional return to Chelsea, six years after he left Stamford Bridge - and starts with a home game against Hull City. The two then face off at Old Trafford a week later in one of the mouthwatering early season matches.

Australia claim win to book their place in Brazil

Australia left it late but beat Iraq 1-0 to become the second country to qualify for the 2014 World Cup finals in front of 80,000 rain-soaked but euphoric fans at Sydney's Olympic Stadium on Tuesday.
Six minutes after coming on as a substitute for Tim Cahill, Kennedy rose alone in the centre of the penalty box to head Mark Bresciano's cross past the despairing dive of Iraq goalkeeper Noor Sabri and into the net.

The stadium erupted and Kennedy was mobbed by his team mates as they celebrated the goal that looked like it would secure the win they needed to seal second place in Asian qualifying Group B and the ticket to Brazil that went with it. The Australians, frustrated for much of the evening by their own lack of penetration as much as the Iraqis, will now make their third successive trip to football’s showpiece tournament and a fourth in total after 1974, 2006 and 2010.

Goal.com - Wan Zack to stay with FC Ryukyu

FC Ryukyu confirmed that they were contacted by Malaysia but were not aware of which clubs were interested in the services of Wan Zack Haikal

Wan Zack Haikal will be staying with FC Ryukyu at least till the end of his two-year contract. This was confirmed by the Executive Vice President of FC Ryukyu, Sotaro Shinoda.

After several weeks of speculation around the return of Wan Zack to Malaysia, it turns out that FC Ryukyu have no plans to release the 22-year-old. Sotaro was contacted by someone from Malaysia and according to him, the person did not say he was an agent or the club’s name.

He said: “They asked us about Wan Zack’s contract and we replied that we have a two-year contract with Wan Zack and will not release him during the contract period.”

While there is a possibility that a broker might have contacted FC Ryukyu, there is no evidence to say which clubs have interest in buying the services of Wan Zack.

Sotaro continued to praise the abilities of the former Harimau Muda player, saying that they would not be paying him if he wasn’t an asset. “Wan Zack can play both on the right and left sides and make very good penetrating runs. “I hope he will come back from injury as soon as possible and get back into squad.”

Wan Zack played only once for FC Ryukyu this season and was sidelined after he sustained an ankle injury.
He joined the third division Japanese side in March 2013 and looks set to stay with the club at least till 2015 when his contract runs out.

World Cup Qualify AFC - Australia 4 Jordan 0

Former Premier League stars Tim Cahill and Lucas Neill got on the scoresheet as Australia enjoyed a routine 4-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Jordan.

Bayer Leverkusen-bound Fortuna Dusseldorf winger Robbie Kruse set up midfielder Mark Bresciano and New York Red Bulls' Cahill for goals in each half before scoring his own in the 76th minute, with captain Neill putting the icing on the cake six minutes from time at Melbourne's Docklands Stadium.

The win put Australia into second place in Asia's Group B on 10 points, with a victory over Iraq in their final qualifier in Sydney next week certain to seal the group's second direct berth to Brazil. Japan have already qualified in top spot.

Jordan, on seven points, are likely to need a home victory over third-placed Oman in their final qualifier and for other results to go their way to keep their hopes of a maiden World Cup appearance alive.
