ENGLISH FA CUP SEMI FINAL DRAW

Saturday. 5 April 2008

Barnsley vs Cardiff City

West Bromwich vs Portsmouth

“Barnsley have been drawn against fellow Championship side Cardiff City in the FA Cup semi-finals.Portsmouth, the last Premier League side in the competition, will play promotion hopefuls West Bromwich Albion. Both semi-finals will be played at Wembley on the weekend of the 5th and 6th of April.

Yorkshire side Barnsley, currently 18th in the Championship, are one match away from the final after beating Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield and Chelsea 1-0 at Oakwell in the fifth round and quarter-final respectively.
Their opponents Cardiff City also beat top flight opposition at the weekend, defeating Middlesbrough 2-0.The two sides drew 1-1 when they met in the league earlier in the season at Oakwell, and the reverse fixture is the last match of the regular season for both sides.

Portsmouth, whose manager Harry Redknapp has never managed a side in a match at Wembley before, defeated last years beaten finalists Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford to book their date with high-flying West Brom, who won 5-1 at Bristol Rovers to reach this stage. The last time these two asides met was during West Brom's last Premier League campaign in the 2005/06 season, with both sides winning their home league fixture against the other. West Brom are genrally viewed as the strongest side out of the Championship trio, raising the distinct possibility of an all-second tier final.”
