Championship - Hull City Promotion

Hull City secured promotion to the Premier League in almost the most dramatic circumstances imaginable on an afternoon that saw Peterborough United and Wolverhampton Wanderers relegated to League One.

Hull conceded an injury-time penalty having just missed one of their own to draw 2-2 at home to Cardiff City, meaning some premature pitch invasions could have looked rather silly if Watford managed to win at home to Leeds to snatch the second automatic promotion spot.

The game at Vicarage Road witnessed an eventful first half when Watford's number one keeper Manuel Almunia pulled up injured in the warm-up and his replacement Jonathan Bond suffered a serious neck injury that resulted in 16 minutes of added time in the first half.

That meant the Watford game continued long after Hull's and as the Tigers players huddled round TV monitors to watch the closing stages, they witnessed a second howler of the afternoon from stand-in keeper Jack Bonham in his first ever game as Leeds won 2-1 to deny Watford promotion.
