Breaking News

1. Fernando Alonso did not 'brake-test' bitter rival Lewis Hamilton to cause an accident during Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix. 2. Rio Ferdinand has given Sir Alex Ferguson another defensive headache after leaving the Riverside with his foot in a protective case following Manchester United's 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough. United can ill afford to lose Ferdinand for long with fellow centre-back Nemanja Vidic out for three weeks and some crucial matches coming up in the Premier League and Champions League. Ferdinand limped off during the match and left the stadium with his foot in a plastic case, as a precaution.

3. Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech is a major doubt for the Champions League quarter-final second leg with Fenerbahce after undergoing surgery on a facial injury. The 25-year-old - who only recently returned to training following a period out with ankle ligament damage - sustained the injury after colliding with a team-mate in training on Sunday. A statement on the club's official website read: "Petr Cech underwent surgery yesterday following a training ground accident which left him with lacerations to his lip and chin.

4. Sevilla are set to be without versatile wide player Adriano for up to a month because of injury. The Brazil international left back and midfielder played for all of Sunday's 2-0 home victory over Villarreal but he has since been diagnosed with a calf problem which Sevilla believe will keep him sidelined for between "three to four weeks".

5. Bayern Munich moved nine points clear in the Bundesliga with seven games to play after showing character to match their quality in a 3-1 win at home to VfL Bochum.
