News

1. A late Carlos Tevez header salvaged a 1-1 draw for Manchester United away to Blackburn Rovers, despite a majestic performance by Brad Friedel. Tevez glanced the ball home to equalise Roque Santa Cruz's opener three minutes from time just as it looked like they would be denied.

2. Goals in each half from Robert Koren and Zoltan Gera saw West Brom stretch their lead at the top of Championship with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Norwich. Koren opened the scoring in the second minute when he beat David Marshall to the rebound after the Canaries goalkeeper had parried Kevin Phillips' low shot from the edge of the area.

3. Luca Toni struck twice to earn Bayern Munich a 2-1 extra-time win over Borussia Dortmund in the German Cup final. The victory gave the Bavarians a record 14th win in the competition and set up a likely domestic double. Toni had scored his first in the 11th minute and Bayern were heading for a victory before Mladen Petric struck in the second minute of added time to level the scores and bring heroic Dortmund back from the brink at the Olympiastadion.

4. Barcelona's faltering title bid took another blow as they were held to a 0-0 draw at the Camp Nou by city rivals Espanyol while Atletico were beaten at home by Real Betis and Sevilla were also taken apart on their own patch 4-1 by Almeria. Barca dominated possession in the first period but could not find a breakthrough, with Eidur Gudjohnsen, Gianluca Zambrotta and Xavi all going close. The story was much the same in the second half despite the best efforts of substitute Lionel Messi, meaning Barcelona could fall 11 points behind league leaders Real Madrid if they win at Racing Santander on Sunday.

5. Roma's title hopes were dealt a serious blow after they could only draw 1-1 with relegation-threatened Livorno at the Stadio Olimpico. Mirko Vucinic broke the deadlock to put the Romans ahead as they coasted through the match, only for substitute Alessandro Diamanti to punish them for their complacency with a stunning free kick seven minutes from time that keeps Roma three points behind league leaders Internazionale, having played a game more.
