"Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo heads a six-man shortlist for the PFA Player of the Year award. The Portuguese international is expected to be a near-unanimous choice for the award but could face competition from Liverpool striker Fernando Torres, who has struck 29 goals in his debut season.
Torres is joined by his club captain Steven Gerrard, while Arsenal boast two nominees in Cesc Fabregas and Emmanuel Adebayor. Title-chasing Chelsea have no contenders, while the surprise package of the list is Portsmouth goalkeeper David James, currently enjoying the best form of his life aged 37.
Ronaldo, Torres and Fabregas are also among the nominees for the Young Player of the Year award, and are joined on the shortlist by Aston Villa pair Ashley Young and Gabriel Agbonlahor, along with Manchester City defender Micah Richards."
